Movie Review : Befikre

Befikre attempts to explore new realms of love and friendship; based largely on how things could potentially turn out to be rather than the possibilities that exist in the lives of most people. Moreover, the movie’s core theme is not something new, especially at the global stage, where such stories have been experimented various times and with much better results. It’s true that upgrades have become a part and parcel of our lives in every sphere, but it is also true that not all upgrades are worth it, and there are times when the heart and mind prefer the everlasting charms of old tunes.

Befikre is the story of two temperamental, volatile people, Dharam (Ranveer Singh) and Shyra (Vaani Kapoor). Their relationship starts with a one-night stand and soon transforms into a healthy relationship. As they go about exploring life and each other, they come to realize that they work better as friends rather than love birds. The break-up happens soon after, but they agree to remain friends forever. However, their friendship is tested when their individual love lives start taking shape.

The movie has its honest, funny moments and the credit for most of it goes to the highly energetic Ranveer Singh. He plays the character of a homophobic straight boy, who carries some weird notions about girls and their behavior towards him. On the other hand, Vaani Kapoor does not have much to offer other than her splendid looks. She dances and grooves, but somehow it fails to have any major impact on the audiences’ sensibilities. The movie has several throwbacks to the super hit movie DDLJ and many of these are quite funny.

If you like romcoms, Befikre can work for you. However, don’t go to the theaters expecting something new or spectacular.
