Badrinath Ki Dulhania offers a refreshing twist to the usual story of love at first sight and its meanderings into the wide unknown. The movie tells the story of love blossoming in a small town, where people still follow rigid societal norms and things like patriarchy are quite evident. What happens when love comes across these rigid societal barriers and how it overcomes them is the crux of the movie.
The story is about Badrinath (Varun Dhawan), who comes from a conservative small town family and is looking for a bride. On a fateful day, during a wedding, he spots Vaidehi (Alia Bhatt), who seems to him just the kind of bride he was looking for. He starts wooing her, and even sends a marriage proposal to her family, but Vaidehi is an ambitious girl and has plans of her own. Will Badrinath manage to win the heart of his dulhania and take her as his bride? Here’s where the story gets complicated and emotions become a lot more serious, after the largely comical scenes during the initial stages of the movie.
Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt have come across as the perfect couple in the movie, sharing an intense chemistry that does not carry any trace of being faked or acted. Their onscreen companionship is beautiful and effortless and it is sure to make you grin. Credit also goes to director Shashank Khaitan for exploring various societal issues in a lighter tone that does not leave you depressed.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania is a grand wedding and comes with good music, plenty of humor, and lots of things to ponder over. If you like romcoms, go for it.
