Judwaa 2 Movie Review

While piracy is illegal, there doesn’t seem to be any issues with churning the same old stories in an effort to create new ones. For the uninitiated, Judwaa 2 is the rebooted version of the original Judwaa, which was released in 1997 and had Salman Khan in a double role. The original Judwaa was a hit, which is why the filmmakers don’t mind doing a repeat, aiming to cash in on the popularity of the original story and title. Director David Dhawan has always believed in making true entertainers and he does not mind using totally illogical thoughts and ideas. The filmmaker believes that as long as people can enjoy their time, the movie should be classified as a success. In that sense, Judwaa 2 does entertain, but it appears to fall short of the original Judwaa.

Raja (Varun) and Prem (Varun) are conjoined twins, and they share a peculiarity that is extremely rare, only one in several million conjoined twins. And the peculiarity is that when one experiences pain and other strong emotions, the other experiences it too. They were separated at birth due to the wicked plans of a smuggler named Charles (Zakir Hussain). Charles kidnaps Raja soon after birth, which separates the twins and they do not know each other until they are adults. However, they continue to experience each other’s emotions, which keeps them connected, even though they don’t particularly like the weird things happening to them. Another thing about the twins is that one is docile and the other is quite violent and aggressive. When the world tries to subdue the docile one, it’s the aggressive one that has to come to the rescue.

Varun Dhawan has been endearing in both the roles and he has delivered what was expected of him. Even though the dialogues and funny one-liners seem familiar, Varun’s energy covers for the lack of their inventiveness. And what are the girls, Samara (Taapsee) and Alishka (Jacqueline), doing in the movie? Well, they are also here to entertain and their skimpy clothes seem to have a wicked purpose. Director David Dhawan has made many comedy movies, so he can do it almost blindly now, we think.

If you want to relive the 90s era and don’t mind some loud gags and pelvic thrusts, Judwaa 2 could be your thing this Dussehra.
