Why did Ranveer Singh drop his sur name?

Like Dev Anand, whose real name was Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand, Ranveer Singh also dropped his sur name to enter Bollywood. While many know that Ranveer Singh's real surname is Bhavnani, he shares why he chose to drop it from his screen name.

When asked, the actor revealed, "It's too long, too many syllables. Ranveer 'Singh' is short, crisp and can stay in your memory easily. Ran-veer-Singh-Bhav-nani is too long. It's not a saleable commodity."

When asked why he added 'Singh' in particular, he added, "Dadaji is Sikh so that's how 'Singh' came."

There have been many other actors who even changed their names to make their names a "saleabale commodity" including Akshay Kumar (real name Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia) and Dilip S Kumar (real name Muhammad Yusuf Khan) to name a few.
