5 Unusual Indian Travel Destinations you should visit before they vanish!

Environment is changing all around us and human acts are largely to be blamed. Some of our careless acts are taxing nature so heavily that some of its natural beauties might be lost within the next few years. Once lost, no restoration work can bring them to their former glory. There are many such unusual tourist attractions in India, which might not even exist if you do not visit them now. Read on to learn about such destinations.

Rama Setu, Tamil Nadu: Popularly known as Adam’s Bridge, it is a natural bridge made with a chain of limestone shoals. It connects Dhanushkodi in India with Mannar Island in Sri Lanka. One legend proclaims the bridge to have been constructed by Rama’s Vaanar sena, mentioned in the Ramayana. It is one of the mesmerizing beauties of India, but the sad thing is that a canal project – Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project ordered by the Indian government could erase this natural wonder once and for all.

Sunderbans Mangrove Forests, West Bengal: Sunderban Delta is one of the most fascinating places on Earth. It supports a wide variety of flora and fauna, and is widely known for its large population of Royal Bengal Tigers. But the habitat of these regal beasts is under threat. The delta is low lying and the rising water levels (caused by Global Warming) means that the delta could be completely submerged in the coming days..
Western Ghats: One of the hottest spots for biological diversity, the Western Ghats is marked as UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the “Wild, Wild West of India”, serving as a home to various kinds of animals and plant species. Nature’s beauty is at its full display here. But, it would not remain the same in the coming days. Development of the region has exposed the Ghats to builders and this will erase the natural beauty of the region with human settlements and the nuances that come with it.
Coral Reefs, Lakshadweep: Lakshadweep is best known for its coral reefs. Tourists here can witness mesmerizing beauty under water with snorkelling expeditions. But excessive fishing and coral mining are damaging the underwater eco-system. Apart from this Global Warming is also contributing to the destruction of these reefs.
Majuli, Assam: Majuli is the largest river island in the world. It is also home to diverse wildlife such as tigers, elephants, deer, wild buffaloes, birds, etc. Massive deforestation in this island has led to erosion, whereby the island is drastically shrinking in size. It is estimated that the island has already shrunk from 483 sq km to 421 sq km. Researchers believe that at this rate Majuli will cease to exist in the coming 15 years.
If you want to visit any of these quickly vanishing natural wonders of India, then do not ponder. They are beautiful, but they will not exist much longer if drastic steps are not taken.
