Life’s full of challenges for someone living alone, and things can get worse with just a teeny bit of misfortune. Trapped is the story of Shaurya (Rajkummar Rao), who accidently gets trapped in one of the top floor flats of a Mumbai high-rise. It’s a newly rented flat and Shaurya gets trapped in it for nearly a week. His problem is no ordinary one since the entire building is devoid of residents and there’s no water, food or electricity. Moreover, his phone battery also drains out. Shaurya tries a lot many things to get the attention of anyone who might see or hear him, but nothing really works. As things start getting worse with every passing day, Shaurya realizes that he might be dead soon, right there in the flat. Soon, his primordial survival instincts kick in and he comes up with an amazing escape plan.

The thing that works for this movie is its brilliance in turning an everyday event into a true nightmare. This is not about getting lost in a jungle or being stranded on an island; rather, this is about getting trapped in a bustling city. The movie takes claustrophobia and the fear of slow, decaying death to the next level. Another thing that works for the movie is the spectacular performance delivered by Rajkummar Rao. His portrayal of the mental anguish, fear, and helplessness of the character is truly commendable. Rao establishes an instant connect with the audience right from the beginning and maintains it throughout the movie. The audience is drawn in by what may happen next and the thought process of what they might have done when faced with a similar situation.

Trapped is a one-of-its-kind thriller. If you like this genre, chances are high you might enjoy this one.
