Alagiri says there’s no democracy in DMK, some members are trying to usurp party’s wealth

CHENNAI: DMK chief M Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri, who was suspended from the party for anti-party activities, said on Friday that some people in the party are trying to usurp its wealth.

Talking to TOI, Alagiri, who was party's south zone organizing secretary, said, "People who have come from other parties (referring to close associates of his brother and party treasure M KStalin who quit the AIADMK and joined the DMK) are trying to usurp party's wealth. There is no democracy in the party. I raised my voice for the sake of some partymen."

The former Union minister said Stalin was behaving as if he was the party president. "Stalin is behaving as if he is the party president. He is only a treasurer and should stick to that. Stalin is power hungry. He will do anything to attain power and he is doing it."

He said he suspected someone was 'blackmailing' his father. "I suspect my father is being blackmailed. Or else, why have they suspended me without any genuine reasons?"

"This is the second time I'm being suspended. I haven't done anything wrong. I don't know why the suspended me and for what. I don't know if the DMK chief is being blackmailed," he added.

Asked whether he would launch a new party, Alagiri said he would discuss it with his supporters after his birthday on January 30.

Alagiri said he had no intention to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections.
