Movie Review: Pink

Pink explores the faulty beliefs of a prejudiced society, where women who party, have drinks with men and wear modern clothes are classified as lacking moralistic values. The movie also highlights a woman’s right to say “no” to intimate relations, in every situation or event that might be, notwithstanding what her partner may think or believe.

Minal (Taapsee), Falak (Kirti) and Andrea (Andrea) are three normal middle-class working girls from Delhi, who share a modernistic view on life. Partying is a way of life for them and it’s all good fun. One night, the three girls agree for dinner with Rajveer (Angad) and two of his friends at a resort in Surajkund. After they have a couple of drinks, the men start believing that the women want to get intimate with them. As the men try to get closer, the girls clearly say “no” and resist their advances. In an effort to protect her, Minal smashes a bottle on Rajveer’s face, leaving him bleeding. They leave the spot soon after and reach home believing that their traumatic journey has ended. However, the men, who belong to powerful families, won’t leave them alone since their pride is hurt. They use their influence to brand the girls as prostitutes and get them arrested. The core of the movie is in the courtroom drama, where defense lawyer Deepak Sehgall (Amitabh) represents the girls. Their modernistic views on life come under fire, as questions about their character are raised in the courtroom.

Everyone has delivered a fantastic performance with Bachchan being simply outstanding. Pink is yet another trophy for creative producer, Shoojit Sircar, who has directed various marvels such as Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe, and Piku.

Go for Pink to experience a riveting storyline, some great performances and the courage it takes to challenge the society’s double standards. This one’s a must watch.
