As ghost stories go, they have always attracted the inquisitive types. However, Phillauri is not a ghost story; rather, it’s more like the love story of a ghost, something that spurs plentiful questions, scenarios and possibilities in the mind.
The story catches up on the life of Kanan (Suraj Sharma) who is getting married. However, before his marriage, he must appease his bad luck and as per tradition, the only way to do that is to marry a tree. Even though he finds it hard to believe in such irrational things, he agrees to do it just for the satisfaction of everyone including his family. However, it so happens that the tree is home to a ghost named Shashi (Anushka Sharma) who has been living there since a hundred years. When Kanan marries the tree, Shashi becomes Kanan’s wife and starts living with him. Only Kanan can see her, and since he cannot probably spend an entire life with a ghost, he must find a way to part ways with her. As it turns out, Phillauri has a fascinating past, a remarkable love story and a heart-wrenching tragedy that is forcing her to stay around.
Phillauri’s concept is distinctively unique, which is also the main USP of the movie. All the actors have delivered decent performances including Anushka and Diljit. The music is soulful and there’s plenty of humor and melancholy to keep you engaged.  The VFX team has also done a good job at presenting Anushka as the angelic ghost.
If you like new concepts in movies and have a taste for timeless love stories, Phillauri might just make your day.
